Untold (Lynburn Legacy #2) by Sarah Rees Brennan
Release Date: September 24, 2013

Why Tina is waiting for it:
The first novel in this series, Unspoken, was one of the best books I read last year, hands down. The characters were smart and witty, but still made silly teenager mistakes. And the romance was the angstiest thing I have ever read. I loved it so much. Are you guys following SRB’s Livejournal? She posts bits and pieces of this novel, and none of them make me happy, but they still make me need the book like NOW. I admit that I am sad we lost the gorgeous Gothic feel with this new cover, but I can handle disappointment. I am dying for more Kami and Jared, Holly and Angela, and the rest of Sorry-in-the-Vale’s residents.

Dead Ends by Erin Jade Lange
Release Date: September 3, 2013

Why Ashley is waiting for it:
Erin happens to be a local author who I see at a lot of book signings. We talk, mock each other, discuss nail polishes and her upcoming wedding. But even if I wasn’t on good enough terms to mock her, I would still read this book. Her debut last year, Butter, handled a tough topic and so does this one. The thing about Erin’s writing is that it’s so well done that the tough topic at hand stays with you awhile no matter what it is. Butter changed my life and I can’t wait to see Dead Ends change it, too.

Any Other Name (The Split Worlds #2) by Emma Newman
Release Date: May 28, 2013

Why Tina is waiting for it:
Oh my god, how I loved the first novel in this series, Between Two Thorns. I was just so excited to see that all three novels will be out this year. I love you, Strange Chemistry. Newman writes this ethereal Fae world that is so perfect and scary and nerve-wracking, bumped right up against our mundane modern world. This is like the best of the best when it comes to urban fantasy. Cathy is stuck between a rock and a hard place, Max has a very twisty mystery to solve, Sam has to come to terms with the dual world he was thrown into. What has really been holding me over are the short stories set in the Split Worlds, and they’re even more fun to read once you know the cast. This one is coming soon and I can’t wait!

The Glass Republic (The Skyscraper Throne #2) by Tom Pollock
Release Date: August 1, 2013

Why Tina is waiting for it:
I fell in love with Pollock’s first novel, a wonder of YA urban fantasy called The City’s Son. Everything seemed so grim, but Beth, our protagonist, was strong and brave, even when she acted on impulse with little reason to do so. And her friend Pen had the most heartbreaking story of all, and I am so happy that this sequel focuses on her story, bringing us back to the mirror world and all their prissy nonsense. Pen was probably the one who was hurt the most in the first novel, and she is changed, both in appearance and in attitude (aside from Filius, but his circumstances are different). I am very eager to see where Pollock takes Pen next, and also to be immersed in the mirror world the way the author took us to London in The City’s Son.

AntiGoddess (Antigoddess #1) by Kendare Blake
Release Date: September 10, 2013

Why Ashley is waiting for it:
To be fair I will read anything Blake writes. Blake’s writing is the best thing that Tina brought to our friendship minus the fact Tina knows what I’m thinking before I am. I have talked on twitter to Blake and have become friendly to the point we mock each other a lot and I leave hilarious comments on her livejournal; but even with all of that being said, I would still read this book. Not only is the cover creepy, and lets be real, we sadly all judge books by their covers, this sounds like an amazing book. “Cassandra — an ordinary girl who was once an extraordinary prophetess, protected and loved by a god.” I already know Tina and I will be reading this and doing dual reviews but also crossing our fingers tightly for an ARC of it. Because if Blake writes it, these two girls will read it. Even if she is a Minnesota Twins fan.

Magic Rises (Kate Daniels #6) by Ilona Andrews
Release Date: July 30, 2013

Why Tina is waiting for it:
Ilona Andrews writes the best adult urban fantasy, hands down (Kat Richardson and Stacia Kane are close though). Kate is a badass who kills people with a sword and doesn’t go home and cry about it later. She owns her badassery. Plus she’s now mated with Curran, the Beast Lord, which makes for hot sexy scenes and a little bit of angst. I read the book about Andrea last year, and I liked that one too, but I am really glad we’re getting more Kate. I love being in Kate’s head. And now that she’s no longer in the Order, she can be pretty much as ruthless as she wants even if she’s lost a bit of authority and access. This one takes us out of Atlanta (I think), but I am really psyched to read a book that is more closely about Kate and Curran without other Pack members distracting me and complicating things.

Of Triton (Of Poseidon #2) by Anna Banks
Release Date: May 28, 2013

Why Tina is waiting for it:
So I promised myself at the end of 2012 that I wouldn’t read any mermaid novels this year. I broke that promise, because not only will I be reading this, I will also be reading Deep Betrayal by Anne Greenwood Brown. Admittedly, I had some issues with the first book in this series, but I just can’t help myself. I love mermaids. And I like the story behind this one. I want to know more about Galen and his sister, Rayna, Toraf, and I especially want to know more about the missing princess and Grom. And this sounds like another coming-of-age tale, and I will never turn those down. I’m interested to see how the relationship between Galen and Emma develops, and how Emma reconciles her human life with her Syrena attributes. NetGalley and Random House were kind enough to grant me an ARC of this one, so look for it here closer to the publication date! (See my review of the first in the series, Of Poseidon, here.)

The Program (The Program #1) by Suzanne Young
Release Date: April 20, 2013

Why Ashley is waiting for it:

I think it is easier to list why I’m not waiting for it. This is by far one of the most hyped books of the upcoming months. The author is a local author who I’ve had the pleasure of meeting who is super nice and lovely (which makes reading their books easier.) This book also just sounds good, it sounds like the type of book I can’t wait to pick up and devour. Which is weird, because if I’m being honest it doesn’t sound like the “typical” Ashley book, but I’ve learned my taste are evolving.

Awaken (Abandon Trilogy #3) by Meg Cabot
Release Date: May 7, 2013

Why Ashley is waiting for it:
One of my favorite things about this series is the fact it comes out near my birthday! It has been like a present to myself for the past three years. Another important point is I will always read Meg Cabot. I have loved her since I first read The Princess Diaries many moons ago. But on to this trilogy. I have read the first two books within days of them coming out, which is always painful because I then have to wait another year for the next to come out. But this story is coming to an end, and I can wait to see where Cabot takes them.

Golden Girl (American Fairy #2) by Sarah Zettel
Release Date: June 25, 2013

Why Tina is waiting for it:
This series is about a Callie, a half-black girl in a time in which mixed heritage spelled doom, and she’s also half-fairy. Callie has escaped the Dust Bowl and is now in Hollywood, and I’m interested to see the racial implications of that. I’m also interested to see where Zettel takes her mixed up fairy groups (the Unseelies are the good guys in this one), and how Callie and Jack are faring. I really really can’t wait to see what happens with the Fairy War, which we only got whisperings of in Dust Girl. I haven’t read many fairy books this year, so I am really looking forward to this one (and the cover is stunning)!
